A small studio,
making one bag at a time.

“Every piece begins as a single length of rope, coiled from the base upward by one artisan, start to finish.”
MAISON ELOWEN began as an experiment in patience. In 2019, our founder apprenticed with a rope artisan in the south of France who had spent 40 years making functional objects — fishing nets, climbing lines, rigging — that were never meant to be beautiful.
The question she brought back was simple: what happens when you apply that same uncompromising craft to something you carry every day?

Pieces per season
Handwoven, not assembled.
Each bag in the Maison Elowen collection is made by a single artisan from start to finish. No hand-off. No production line. The artisan who begins a piece is the artisan who signs it.
Cotton rope is coiled at an even tension — a skill that takes years to develop — over a hand-cut vegetable-tanned leather base. The leather hardens and softens with use, developing a patina specific to its owner.
We make fewer than 200 pieces per season. When a design sells out, it does not return in the same form. Every season’s work is its own chapter.

Nothing synthetic. Nothing disposable.
Cotton Rope
Undyed, vegetable-dyed, or mineral-dyed — always 100% natural cotton, sourced from a single mill in Portugal that has supplied us since day one. The rope is the bag.
Vegetable-Tanned Leather
Full-grain hides tanned in bark extract, a process that takes months rather than days. No chrome. No shortcuts. The leather stiffens in the first weeks, then softens for a lifetime.
Hardware
Solid brass or blackened steel, depending on the piece. All hardware is sourced from a family-owned forge in Lyon. Plated hardware does not appear in any Maison Elowen piece.
Built to last. Made with intention.
Every Maison Elowen piece is made to order — one artisan, one bag, start to finish. We don’t rush production. Each piece takes the time it needs, because quality is never compromised.
Packaging is unbleached cotton dust bag, recycled cardboard, and water-based inks. No tissue paper. No filler. No waste.
